Subtropical Garden
Since I live below the tropic of Cancer, the varieties of plants that not only survive but thrive in my garden are manifold. Here are a few of the things that you would find in my garden if you came to visit, as well as the reasons why I love living here:

One of the songs our dad used to serenade us with was “Sweet Violets.” It was one song I knew all the lyrics to when I was a little girl. Still do. I bet you wish you could hear me singing along as you listen to it here. I’m curious about how many people recognize this song. If you do, please tell me so in the comments section. Did you sing along? I did. Every word.

My plumeria tree just keeps on blooming this year. The leaves are lusher than usual as well. I’ll try to enjoy them before the rains come and pick them all!

Just try to convince me that this thunbergia isn’t sky blue! The first photo is of a thunbergia flower on the vine near my studio. The second is a mistake shot I took of the sky seconds later. I was amazed at how the colors matched!

These succulent hen and chick blooms seem to be blushing. It is a very hearty and easily transplanted succulent, thus its scientific name “sempervivum,” which means “lives forever.”

Looks like a little bougainvillea parade. The white guys are the actual flowers. The red petals are the leaves. Bet you knew that!
