Orange Thunbergia: Cee’s Flower of the Day Challenge

Orange Thunbergia: Cee’s Flower of the Day Challenge

Hard to believe that yes, this, too, is a thunbergia! I bought this plant years ago and had Pasiano plant it, but it was invisible–obscured by bougainvillea  and ferns.  I thought it had died out long ago, then yesterday I saw it  rising up from the thick undergrowth and twining up this wire at the entrance to my house.  Perfect!

Crowded Secret

This secret
shared with only you
has become crowded.

Like a party with too many guests,
it spills up the staircase
and into private rooms.

This secret with only room for two
has nudged you out of my confidence
as this one and this one and this one

crowd in to offer advice
just as though
they had been invited.

Jade Plant: Cee’s Flower of the Day Challenge, 8/13/15

Jade Plant

This was my friend Chuy’s plant and every time I look at it, I think of him.  He used to take my friend Betty and me out into the small villages to see precolumbian artifacts and ruins.  IMG_3680I love the buds as much as the flowers–the shading and the tight little promise of delicate white flowers to come.

IMG_3691IMG_3684They are like presents that open themselves.  Every day a new collection of perfect blooms.

IMG_3689IMG_3687 IMG_3685 IMG_3682Impossible to choose a favorite shot, so I’ll be as profuse as the plant and just include them all!

Grey World : Travel Theme Grey

IMG_1427

How can you know I’m not cheating? In black and white, lots of colors pass for grey!!!

Version 2

See? She’s really grey! Squeak/nee Birdie/nee Annie no longer comes onto the property now that a second and third dog have been added.  She is faithful to this wall.  Especially at mealtime.  I don’t know where she sleeps.  Not in her bed in the nice warm cat carrier in the garage anymore.  She is semi-wild.

Storms dumped tons of rocks onto the beach in La Manzanilla last year. Made for a lot of gray!

This gray heron is almost invisible against banks of grey stones.

DSC09326

Six inches of sand and dirt completely obscured the paving stones on main street so first timers were mislead into thinking there was no paving at all. Men worked for weeks to shovel out the packed sand and reveal the pavers underneath.

Still Don’t Know the Name of This Flower! Cee’s Flower of the Day, Aug. 10, 20

Still Don’t Know the Name of This Flower!

IMG_3536I am still trying to remember the name of this flower.  I have a paler variety at home but these beauties are in bloom on the Lake Chapala Society grounds. I love the seed pods as well, so I’m showing one above.  They burst open and spill out the black bee bee seeds, insuring a new generation of plants.

Night Fantasies and Other Reading Pleasures

Night Fantasies and Other Reading Pleasures

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Bedtime Stories.” What was your favorite book as a child? Did it influence the person you are now?

IMG_3312 IMG_3313

For his entire life, my dad was the storyteller in the house, but at night time, it was my mom who climbed into bed with me and talked me to sleep.  At first, she would make up the stories, perhaps fitting me into them, or weaving fantastic tales of everyday life that grew as I asked question after question.  (Present day bloggers may notice this same tendency in my comments! Sound familiar, “Relax”?)

One story would end, and of course, I demanded another.  Finally, she found a book of one-page stories to read to me, and when she got to the end of the first page, most nights she could be prevailed upon to read one or two more. To this day, I usually listen to a recorded book from Audible as I fall asleep.  As I’ve noted before, sometimes I wake up in the morning with the book still running and I wonder how it affects my dreams.

What a relief to learn to read in the first grade, so I could experience a new story whenever I wished.  From Dick and Jane to The Little Red Hen, I loved those simple plots that somehow grew so involved in my imagination.

Many of my favorite childhood books were lost in a tornado, but a few years ago, I found a number of others in my older sister’s library.  “A Walk in the City,” several Dr. Seuss books and my favorite of all times, “The Teenie Weenies” now reside on my own bookshelves.

It was in second or third grade that I became addicted to Nancy Drew.  Go HERE for that story.

Dripping: Jennifer Nichole Wells One Word Photo Challenge: Humid

The most humid place I’ve ever been is Bali, but the Amazon rainforest came in a close second.  Whereas in Bali, our clothing consisted of sarongs and nothing else, fear of mosquitoes and malaria in Peru meant we needed to be fully covered at all times.  This made for sticky times but all that humidity made for gorgeous skies.  Here are some of them:
